Evanthia is a visual arts researcher, visual producer and arts educator. She has just completed her PhD at the School of the Arts, Birkbeck College: University of London. Her practice based research is focused on ‘Social engagement and the arts’-the research and practical development focused on the city of Nicosia.
Her choice of study has been based on work experience of working with art and vulnerable social groups- such as a homeless organisation in London, working with children from rural war stricken areas in El Salvador and bringing them into museum environments etc. A particular focus of her research is how art can be used in the public and institutional space in order to facilitate contact and critical thought on social issues and how one can bring different audiences within art and museum institutions.
She has worked with different media and disciplines, including photography, film, painting, mural making and scenography. She has worked, exhibited and collaborated with variant galleries and museums in London, El Salvador, Cyprus, Greece, Mexico and Brazil, such as the October Gallery in London, the Modern Art Museum of El Salvador, and the Federal University of Pelotas, Brazil, amongst others. She is currently based in Cyprus researching and producing socially engaged art projects for local and international dissemination and working as the Fine Art Programme Coordinator at the University of Nicosia.
